Unhealthy Comparison

Updated: Dec 15, 2021

For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.” 2 CORINTHIANS 10:12 KJV
There is no wisdom in comparison.

Comparison is the thief of joy.

As humans we sometimes fall into the habit of comparing ourselves with others. We are often so harsh on ourselves. We compare our achievements, appearance, talents and relationships to that of others. We believe other people have it better than us.

“I wish I was as talented as she is."
“I wish I was in the career position that he is in."
“She has a perfect body."
“He has the perfect height."
“I wish my skin was darker."
“I wish my skin was lighter.”
“I wish I had longer hair.”
“I wish I was not bald."
“I wish I was slim.”
“I wish I was curvy."
“I wish I had a flat tummy."

And list goes on. We are hardly ever satisfied with what we have. While you are complaining and wishing to be taller, another person is wishing to be shorter.
While you are stressed about not having a Masters or PhD, another person is wishing they were able to obtain a bachelor's degree.

We constantly believe there is something about us that needs to be changed and social media has further increased these insecurities in us.
The media is constantly showing us what the ideal beauty and lifestyle should look like.
We don't need to define our worth based on others around us . In Christ, we are ENOUGH.

The Bible says “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.” Psalm 139:14. KJV
You don't need to be anybody else. Be comfortable with who you are.

“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.”

YOU are the beholder.
